Note; this is probably not how he really looks.

This guy is like the superstar of the Earth. He has a radio show and a TV show, and a lot of the main characters watch him. However, as it is, he turns out to be an android as well. What now?
Anyway, the analysis. We can't say a whole lot about empathy; we never meet him in person, and it's hard to judge someone based off a TV show. However, because he is an android, we can say that he has significance. For one thing, he is at least somewhat human; even though he doesn't leave a lasting impact (TV doesn't usually do that), he is one of the most famous people around. He is a fraud, but it shows that androids are able to make something with their lives. However, most of the significance is revealed when his radio show is contrasted with Mercerism. Friendly reveals Mercer to be a fraud, leaving out the part about him being one too. However, Mercerism made a real impact on the characters; Iran and Isidore live by it, Rick develops and grows attached to it, and it seems pretty famous. TV shows and radio broadcasts are fun, but they don't leave a mark. Friendly may be remembered as the rich radio guy, but Mercer, despite being shown as fake, made an impact on the lives and actions of people; Friendly is the true fraud, and in the big picture, he is meaningless. Mercerism wins. |
