Some of you may be wondering why Luba Luft was the escaped android we chose to analyze. There's a good reason, and that is her empathy. However, plot-wise, she is one of the escaped androids, and is an opera singer pretending to be a human (until she gets killed).
Once again, the real significance is her empathy level. First of all, she seems to be able to appreciate the world. She is so into a museum that she doesn't even notice two bounty hunters walk directly up to her. She is a singer by profession. She even seems to have normal human hobbies, if her love of museums and paintings is anything to go by. She is significant because, despite physically being an android, she is technically more human that Phil Resch or Rick (before he develops, that is). In addition, because of her, Rick realized that maybe there is more to being a human than literally being a human; her death marks his initial development. It can be argued that without Luba Luft, Rick wouldn't have changed at all by the end of the novel. Pretty cool, right? |
Honestly, my only reason for putting this picture is that she is a singer. It's just here to look good; move along. Check out the analysis.
