Well, this is a change from the usual family member. Iran may be a stay-at-home wife, but she holds a lot more significance than most of those family members relating to the hero in the book; she's not just that one wife who's like, "Oh, go out there and do your best." She is significant. Anyway, her actual character (when in the context of the plot) is just the wife that worries about Rick or argues with him. However, symbolism shows different meanings.
Anyway, her significance is her ability to feel empathy. Remember how Isidore may as well be Mr. Empathy? She may as well be Mrs. Empathy. You may remember that she willingly subjected herself to depression. This shows that she is truly human, and wants to feel emotions the way that humanity meant to. She feels sorry for androids. She accepts an electric animal into the household. She is both empathetic and truly human; one of the top empathy models in the novel, directly alongside Isidore. |
Whoops. Wrong Iran.
