Isidore is what people in the novel's world call a special; due to the world being covered by radioactive dust from World War Terminus, Isidore had mutated. He has a pretty low IQ and is called a chickenhead.
However, similarly to Rick, the most important part of Isidore is empathy. He shows the ability to feel empathy throughout the novel; he longs for human company, cannot distinguish between electric and real animals, and makes friends with androids. His obsession with Mercerism and the empathy that comes with it also show this. The bottom line is that humanity has fallen so low that they look only at the outside; Isidore is the most human person in the book, but everyone puts him beneath them. When you see this, the term special can be seen in a different light; he is "special" because he is one of the few true humans still on Earth. |
(No, not that kind of chickenhead)
